GRANTS PASS Searchers believe missing Alzheimer's patient is dead Comment By Grants Pass Daily Courier MailTribune.com By Grants Pass Daily Courier Posted Feb. 22, 2016 at 2:18 PM Updated Feb 22, 2016 at 3:02 PM By Grants Pass Daily Courier Posted Feb. 22, 2016 at 2:18 PM Updated Feb 22, 2016 at 3:02 PM » Social News The search for 84-year-old Donald DuBose has switched to looking for a body in the Rogue River, following three days of an intense ground search. DuBose, an Alzheimer's patient, walked out of an adult care facility on Avenue de Teresa east of Grants Pass late Wednesday night. "It's extremely frustrating, but at the same time we narrowed down where he's most likely at," said Cory Krauss, Josephine County Search and Rescue Coordinator. "We know he's not stuck in any of the bushes around the house. He most likely traveled to the river." Josephine County Marine Deputy Ernie Fields will be patrolling the Rogue River, looking for DuBose, and also for any sign of kayaker Cory Maleski, who capsized in the Rogue River upstream of Grants Pass Jan. 24 and hasn't been found. DuBose was wearing just a T-shirt and socks according to the staff at The Heart of a Man adult foster care home. He went out the back door, Krauss said, which faces the river. DuBose was not noticed to be missing for about an hour after he left at 9:45 p.m., based on an alarm system that automatically sends text messages, according to owner Kirk Sager. Wind, rain and cold weather made conditions unsafe for anyone caught outside for long. Searchers from around the region worked continuously Thursday and Friday, and Saturday up to 70 volunteers from Josephine, Jackson, Coos, Douglas, Lake and Siskiyou counties were involved, Krauss said. The ground portion of the search was called off at 5 p.m. Saturday. The Oregon Army National Guard sent a helicopter, which made low runs over the river, and up to the foothills above Interstate 5.
