O. P. LINCOLN BANQUET The annual Lincoln day banquet to be held in this city under the auspices of the Jackson county Republican central committee at the Hotel Medford Saturday evening promises to be a well-attended revival of interest in the local organization and of the larger aggregation of which it is an integral part. Covers will be prepared for 260 guests — no more. Among the prominent visitors who will participate in the love feast will be Governor James Withycombe, Fred G. Buchtel, a candidate for a place on the utility commission; State Treasurer Tom Kay, Carl D. Shoemaker, fish and game warden of the state; Commandant Martee of the soldiers' home at Roseburg together with delegations from Josephine county. Colonel R. C. Washburn, the Republican war horse, a resident of the Table Rock district, will be official master of ceremonies. The program in detail is not yet ready for publication, but it will follow the main features of last year's festival, including the calamity talk, bland smile and the warm handshake. LOCAL AND PERSONAL Ted Marsh, of Hillsboro, Washington county, is enjoying a two weeks sojourn in this valley, making his headquarters with H. E. Mills, a former Washington county farmer now doing orchard work in this vicinity. Mr. Marsh says, while they have an abundant rainfall in his section of the Willamette valley during the winter months, those farmers who use irrigation during July and August are the farmers who make the clear profit. He has employed irrigation for four years on a rented place there and states that the increased yield was so great that the owner of the land raised the rent on him. So, he will try to find a tract of land in this valley which he can irrigate for himself. Mr. Marsh, formerly of the Yakima country, declares that he wouldn't farm anywhere in Oregon without irrigation and drainage.
