The scuba theft was reported at ZZ Electric, 744 Grape Street. Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau said an employee reported a break-in at about 10 a.m. Jan. 1. "Probably because of the evidence of forced entry to the back door," Budreau said. However, the owner was out of town and only recently returned to compile a list of the stolen property, so that's why investigators just got word of the crime, Budreau said. A trove of items worth $44,227 was reportedly taken from the business, including snorkels, boots, dive computers, transmitters, scuba backpacks, air tanks, a knife and a GoPro brand video camera. Several pieces of Stihl power equipment also were reported missing, including a blower, weed trimmer, hedge trimmer and sprayer. A .45-caliber pistol and 70-inch TV rounded out the list. Police think the theft is tied to a burglary next door at Real Performance Automotive, reported Jan. 1. In that case, suspects also forced their way in through a rear door, making off with about $10,000 worth of Snap-on tools. "It most likely occurred the same time as the other one," Budreau said. "That's still unsolved. No suspect information, and the tools in that case have not come up." A third Medford tool burglary was also reported New Year's Day about four miles away. In that case, police said, burglars smashed the window of a Cornwell Tools company truck parked in a driveway on the 1500 block of North Phoenix Road and made off with $25,000 worth of property, including heavy-duty diagnostic scanning devices, drivers, ratchets, drills, wrench sets and LED flashlights. Budreau said that case also is still unsolved. Anyone with information about the cases is asked to contact Medford police at 541-770-4784.
