Once that need is filled, donations may be distributed to others in need. Raising not one, but two, sets of twins would challenge any family. Postpartum depression plagued this single mother of 8-year-old twin daughters, 1-year-old twin sons and a 4-year-old girl. Despite this and other barriers to her family’s well-being, the 29-year-old mother never runs short on love, said family advocates for Central Point Head Start. But some clothing and a few toys for the kids would fill her heart with holiday cheer as she looks for a new home in the new year. Moving back in her with own mother in Central Point has helped the woman recuperate and prepare for self-sufficiency. Drawing, crocheting, crafting and reading mysteries takes her mind off obstacles in her way. Like her mother, one of the oldest girls likes crafting, drawing and designing clothes. Her sister, who prefers horses and video games, longs for an Xbox 360 game system. Both need winter clothes in children’s sizes 14/16 and 10/12, as well as shoes in women’s sizes 5 and 3. The youngest girl, shy and withdrawn since the birth of her brothers, would feel special with dress-up costumes, jewelry and hair accessories. She likes dolls, particularly Elsa from Disney’s “Frozen,” and could use some long-sleeved shirts and shoes in children’s sizes 8 and 13, respectively. At Head Start, the 4-year-old has become helpful and happy, said family advocate Jodi von Brandt. The program serves children 3 to 5 with disabilities or from low-income families. The boys wear size 18-month clothes. Push toys, learning games and toy balls, trucks and dinosaurs would bring smiles to their faces.
