Brophy guides St. Mary's to sweep of Lost River MERRILL - In the biggest test of the season thus far, the St. Mary's softball team passed with shining colors on Saturday. Lani Brophy blanked Lost River, 1-0 in Game 1 and 4-0 in the nightcap, to help the Crusaders grab a firm hold on the top spot in the District 6 standings. Lost River fell into a second-place tie with Cascade Christian at 6-2. St. Mary's will play host to the Challengers in a final District 6 doubleheader next Saturday. The Crusaders have had a host of big-margin wins this season, but Saturday's two contests didn't follow the familiar script. Kim Hansen broke through with the opening game's only run in the top of the seventh. Hansen walked to lead things off and came around to score when a throw to second went awry. The Raiders, who along with St. Mary's were 6-0 coming into the twin bill, couldn't crack Brophy or the Crusader defense in either contest, managing just two hits over both games. "The whole team was pretty up for these two games," said St. Mary's coach Robin Snider. "I'm really proud of how they stepped up." Lost River had a chance to tie and possibly win the game in the bottom of the seventh, but Brophy fanned the final batter with runners on second and third. Shawna Jackson added to a stellar defensive effort behind the plate with two hits.
