Police have identified the dead as Charles J. Perowski, 28, and Jessica Thompson, 30, of 1103 N.W. Sunset Drive. According to the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety, a 911 call came in around 12:25 a.m., with an open line. A woman eventually got on the line and said there was a disturbance with her husband. The 911 operator could hear what sounded like a struggle, then gunshots. Police and emergency personnel found the couple dead in the house. They believe Perowski shot Thompson, then turned the gun on himself. A boy and a girl, ages 9 and 11, were in the home. They were placed with other family members, according to a news release from Grants Pass police. Next-door neighbor Raleigh Smith said Perowski, Thompson and the two children had lived there about two years, and that Thompson was a wonderful mother and neighbor. "She was such a good mom," Smith said. "Every morning we would chat when she was getting ready to take her kids to school. She was so proud of them. They were always playing on the trampoline." Thompson had her own house-cleaning business. "She'd go all the way to Ashland to clean houses," Smith said. "She was a humble, hard-working lady who lived for her children." Smith said she heard the couple bicker and argue occasionally, but "nothing at the level I'd call 911." "He was very much to himself, head hung low," Smith said. "You rarely had eye contact.
