Grants Pass SWAT captures homicide suspect By Nick Morgan Updated: Oct 12, 2021 08:27 AM A A A man is in the Josephine County Jail on accusations he mortally wounded a man in northeast Grants Pass, then fled the scene. Jeremy William Garcia, 43, is accused of killing 49-year-old Cole Osborne Sunday night in the 800 block of NE D Street, according to a release issued by the Grants Pass Police Department. A disturbance in the area was first reported to dispatchers at 10:17 p.m., according to police. On scene, first-responders found Osborne with a “life-threatening wound.” AMR paramedics rushed Osborne to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford, where the man later succumbed to his injuries. The release does not provide any further details about how Osborne died, or a possible weapon involved. Grants Pass and Oregon State Police detectives “tirelessly pursued leads in the case” to track down evidence allegedly linking Garcia to the homicide, according to the police department, and tracking the suspect down to a Grants Pass residence in the area of Swathout and Cloverlawn drives. The police department’s Special Weapons And Tactics team surrounded the southeast Grants Pass residence Monday, where police took Garcia into custody without incident. Garcia is held in jail without bail on felony charges that include second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon, a misdemeanor charge of tampering with evidence and on an out-of-state fugitive warrant, according to Josephine County Jail records. As of early Tuesday morning, Josephine County Circuit Court records showed that charges had not yet been filed in the homicide case.
