Joseph Solomon Pearson, 18, pleaded guilty Friday in Jackson County Circuit Court to a charge of second-degree robbery. Circuit Court Judge Lorenzo Mejia ordered Pearson to serve the mandatory prison sentence of five years and 10 months. Pearson was one of three masked men who broke into a Beatty Street home on Nov. 3. They took about $200 and some marijuana from the resident after hitting him in the head with a handgun, said Tim Barnack, deputy district attorney for Jackson County. A cut on the victim’s head required stitches, Barnack said. Pearson was arrested in a Nov. 12 raid on his South Pacific Highway apartment. The Medford Police SWAT Team also arrested two friends of Pearson who were wanted for murder in Vallejo, Calif. One murder suspect, Robert Allen Nelson, 21, was indicted for the Beatty Street robbery but is awaiting trial in Solano County, Calif., for the Oct. 25 slaying of Harvinder Kumar, an employee of Round Table Pizza. The third robbery suspect, Anthony Joseph Jenkins, 20, was arrested Nov. 11 at his Table Rock Road apartment. He and Nelson face charges of first-degree robbery and burglary and conspiracy to commit both those crimes. Prosecutors withdrew those charges in Pearson’s case in exchange for his plea. Jenkins remains in the Jackson County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail.
