Ethel Margaret (Slagle) Knips Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Nov. 18, 2014 at 2:00 AM Posted Nov. 18, 2014 at 2:00 AM » Social News Ethel Margaret (Slagle) Knips passed away Sunday November 9, 2014 at home in Eagle Point, Ore. She and her twin sister, Bethel Estella (Slagle) Hughes, were born May 5, 1916 in Gravelford, Ore. to Everett Slagle and Estelle (Weekly) Slagle. The family, including older brother, George Everett Slagle, lived in Coos County for several years, moving to Medford from Bandon in the early '30s after the death of their father. Ethel (and Bethel) graduated from Medford Senior High (now Central Medford High School) in 1933. On April 10, 1936 Ethel married William E. (Bill) Knips, in Medford. She was a housewife and mother all of her married life. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and volunteered with the Red Cross Blood program for 40-plus years. She was secretary to the principal of Oak Grove School in the early '50s. She made her home, since 2008, with her daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Gary Adsitt, Lynda survives. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Craig W. Knips (Stepheni) of Medford, Ore.; Eric T. Hemingway (Kami) of Eagle Point, Ore.; Curtis J (C.J.) Knips (Angie), also of Eagle Point; Michelle (Hemingway) Morton (Brad) of Central Point, Ore., Kristin (Knips) Pizzola (Tony), of Silver Springs, Md., and Kara Knips also of Silver Springs. There are also eleven great-grandchildren, Jerry, J.T, and Jack, of Eagle Point; Bryan and Jantzen of Medford, Tony and Matthew of Silver Springs, Kali of Elk, Wash., Alexandria of Silver Springs, Jordan of Medford and Clair of Eagle Point; also a step-great-great-grandson, Lano Omega who lives in Elk, Wash. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister, infant son, George William, her husband, Bill in December, 1974; and son, Harold William in April 2014. In Lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Ethel's name be made to the Red Cross Blood Program. Thanks go to Providence Hospice for their kind administrations; special thanks go to Cheryl and Shane for their gentle and loving care. Ethel left with a very large part of Kerry's heart. A Memorial service was held Monday, November 17, 2014, officiated by Rev. Bob Larson. Arrangements entrusted to Perl Funeral Home with Siskiyou Park.
