Serial burglar gets 9 years in 10 cases Justin Ray Dodd ▲ Justin Ray Dodd ▲ --> By Nick Morgan Medford An Ashland man whose string of property crimes included the theft from a Medford business owner of $63,000, which he used to buy heroin, will serve nine years in prison. Justin Ray Dodd, 32, was sentenced Friday in Jackson County Circuit Court after he admitted to nine felony counts, including burglary and aggravated theft in a string of multi-thousand-dollar crimes that occurred in 2016. Restitution figures in Dodd’s cases exceed $92,000. The only victim who attended Dodd’s hearing Friday was Yancy Savage, who lost thousands in June 2016 when Dodd burglarized the office of Savage’s small car lot at the corner of Biddle and Airport roads. Savage lost $46,000 in cash, plus gold and silver coins. Losses and damages from that burglary case alone exceeded $63,000, which Savage said took 20 years for him to accumulate. He believes he’ll never be able to afford his own home because of the theft. “He pretty much blew it for me,” Savage said. “I’ll be feeling this for the rest of my life.” Deputy District Attorney David Orr said Dodd used his theft proceeds to buy 100 grams of heroin — about 1,000 user doses — and sought to buy more from dealers. A search of Dodd’s phone showed a message to another dealer saying, “Let’s rock this town and get everybody hooked on drugs, because at least the drugs we sell will be good. LOL.” Circuit Court Judge Lorenzo Mejia sentenced Dodd to 108 months after Dodd pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief, aggravated first-degree theft, heroin delivery and supplying contraband.
