Claudine Barbara Pollard Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Mar. 29, 2015 at 2:00 AM Posted Mar. 29, 2015 at 2:00 AM » Social News Claudine Barbara Pollard, 87, passed away in Eugene, Ore. March 7, 2015 from age-related causes. She moved to Eugene in 2010, to be near her daughter, Judy, and husband, Mark. Claudine was the youngest and only surviving daughter of three daughters born to Claude and Myrtle Smith; she was born October 13, 1927 in Los Angeles, Calif. She graduated from Fremont High School in L.A., January, 1946. It was there that she married Art Lee Pollard, Jr., April 10, 1946. Upon Art's discharge from the U.S. Navy in August of 1946, he and Claudine moved to Roseburg, Ore., where their two children were born; Michael Allen Pollard, born in 1947, predeceased his mother in 2009. Her daughter, Judy, was born in 1950. Claudine and Art enjoyed life in Roseburg from 1946-1962, where lifelong friends and relatives still live today. They moved to Medford, Ore., in 1962, which was Claudine's home for 48 years. After 24 years of marriage, Claudine and Art divorced in 1970. Claudine's special friend for thirty years, Hank Jensen, predeceased her. Claudine retired from Boise Cascade Corporation in 1992, but remained a member, and had fun and memorable times with the women of the lumber-women's Hoo-Hoo-Ette Club until moving from Medford. She loved volunteer activities, and was a member and officer of many school, church, and civic organizations over the years. Claudine loved to read, and encouraged kids to do the same. She faithfully volunteered with the SMART (Start Making a Reader Today) program for 12 years. The Oregon coast, especially Bandon, was her favorite destination until the day she died. Lake of the Woods holds special memories of family camping and fun. Besides her daughter, Judy, and husband Mark, she is survived by five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter. She has several nieces and nephews with whom she stayed close to throughout her life. A memorial service for Claudine will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Conger-Morris, 800 S. Front St., Central Point, Ore.
