H. Canon, who resigned to become register of the federal law office at Roseburg. Court only meets at present once in the year at Medford, in October, to try southern Oregon cases, but Mr. Davis will occupy the fine office fitted up for the clerk in the federal building. No appointment has been made of United States commissioner at Medford, but it is expected that A. S. Bliton, former commissioner, will be appointed shortly. Judge Wolverton, who makes the appointment, is now in New York. A new law passed prohibits the deputy clerk from holding another federal office, and the positions of commissioner and clerk cannot be consolidated as formerly under Mr. Canon. LOCAL AND PERSONAL Rose vandals are cutting rose bushes and destroying the trees in the parkings. At one place rose limbs three feet in length were cut and left on the lawn. One stem held eight buds. People who own flowers state they will give roses to those who desire them, but object to the destruction of the bushes. H. B. Patterson and Ed Soutter returned Thursday evening from a three weeks business trip through the Sacramento valley. Mr. Patterson reports that there is an overwhelming sentiment in that section for Wilson for president, and that he was surprised at the unanimity of farmers and stockmen for the democratic standard bearer. R. R. Turner, receiver of the local United States land office, left here on train No. 16 last evening for St. Louis and other eastern and southern states, where he will spend several weeks. Before returning home he will attend the democratic national convention. He is a delegate from this district and is pledged to support Woodrow Wilson—Roseburg Review. The weather is fine and the roads grand, so don't forget to attend the pavilion dance at Gold Hill Saturday night. First class music and a royal good time.
