NFL REPORT 49ers' Harbaugh addresses Michigan rumors Comment By Wire reports MailTribune.com By Wire reports Posted Dec. 8, 2014 at 8:12 PM By Wire reports Posted Dec. 8, 2014 at 8:12 PM » Social News San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh on Monday addressed a recent report that he had been approached by the University of Michigan, his alma mater, and about the nature of an exchange he had with Raiders owner Mark Davis. “As a principle, I don’t talk about any other job other than the one that I have,” Harbaugh said in his weekly news conference. “I’ve answered this question many times, even recently, so you know exactly where my priorites are. “I get this from the Marines: Leaders eat last. My No. 1 priority is winning football games. The second priority is the welfare of the players, the coaches, all our staff, the welfare of our team. Lastly is my own personal, professional future.” An NFL Network report Sunday said Michigan had reached out to Harbaugh about the prospect of becoming its next head coach. Michigan officials reportedly came away feeling as if Harbaugh is intent upon remaining in the NFL. Harbaugh has one year left on his contract. However, numerous reports say that Harbaugh’s four-year tenure with the 49ers isn’t going to last beyond this season. One potential landing spot for Harbaugh is the Raiders, who fired head coach Dennis Allen in late September and currently are being guided by interim head coach Tony Sparano. For that to happen, the 49ers would have to fire Harbaugh or trade him after this season. There’s no official indication that either is going to happen. On Sunday, Harbaugh and Raiders owner Mark Davis had a brief exchange on the Raiders sideline before the game between the two Bay Area teams. “I just said hello,” Harbaugh said of his interaction. Harbaugh coached for the Raiders in 2002-03, when the Raiders were owned by Al Davis, Mark’s father. Chiefs The test results for Chiefs safety Eric Berry revealed what the team originally feared two weeks ago: The 25-year old has lymphoma, a cancer of the immune system. More specifically, however, the team announced that Berry has Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which accounts for about 10 percent of lymphoma cases and is considered to be highly curable. “This is a diagnosis that is very treatable and potentially curable with standard chemotherapy approaches,” said Christopher R. Flowers, MD, director of the Emory Lymphoma Program at Emory’s Winship Cancer Institute. “The goal of Mr. Berry’s treatment is to cure his lymphoma and we are beginning that treatment now.” It is unclear what stage Berry’s form of cancer is in. Browns Cleveland coach Mike Pettine was not ready to name a starting quarterback during his news conference Monday afternoon, but he certainly seemed inclined to bench Brian Hoyer and replace him with rookie Johnny Manziel. “I think it’s natural to lean the other way given the results,” Pettine said. “But I still want to make sure we do our due diligence and I get chance to talk to everybody involved with it.” Pettine said the Browns (7-6) would have their starter in place by the time they begin practicing Wednesday in preparation for their game Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals (8-4-1).
