She may be small at 5-foot and 105.6 pounds, but the Ashland resident packs punch — especially in the weight room. “People tell me I don’t realize how small I am,” she says with a laugh. The 24-year-old Timoshenko recently broke her own Oregon Women’s Open Weightlifting records in the snatch, clean and jerk and total. “I love to do it,” says Timoshenko, who was a libero at Del Norte High, where she graduated in 2009. “It is a huge passion of mine. Pretty much I love to work hard and make myself better.” The co-owner of CrossFit Potential in Talent (806 South Pacific Highway) has been athletic and focused on her health for many years, but she only did her first show four months ago in Sisters. Timoshenko soon found out she was quite good at competing. She recorded a 71-kilogram (or 157-pound) clean and jerk, 56-kilo snatch and 127 total in the 48-kilogram female weight class at the Oregon State Championships on June 6 at the University of Oregon. During the clean, the lifter moves the barbell from the floor to a racked position across deltoids and clavicles. During the jerk the lifter raises the barbell to a stationary position above the head, finishing with straight arms and legs, and the feet in the same plane as the torso and barbell. The objective of the snatch is to lift the barbell from the ground to overhead in one continuous motion. Timoshenko had registered a record-setting 70-kilo clean and jerk, 55-kilo snatch and 125 total on May 9 in Portland. In the 53-kilogram category, Cheyenne Rahn holds the snatch record (60 kilos), and Mary Pond is best in the clean and jerk (80 kilos) and total (137.5 kilos). Now Timoshenko is determined to get stronger as she aims for the USA Weightlifting American Open Championships, set for Dec. 3-6 at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno. Her marks qualified her for the prestigious event. The American Open is one of two premier events a year hosted by USA Weightlifting. It also allows entrants from outside the United States. “I was just trying to have fun,” she says. “When I realized how strong I actually was and how close I was to setting the state records and go to the Open, it was a shock to me. “I just want to see how far I can take this. I want to go and be the best I can be.” If Timoshenko can hit a 133 total there, she’d advance to nationals. Her plan to get there? “Work my butt off, every day,” she says. Those efforts will include doing gymnastics moves, strength exercises and tests of agility at the studio, along with filling her cabinets and refrigerator with salubrious options. Away from her personal pursuits, Timoshenko is a Level 1 CrossFit trainer. “We do a little bit of everything,” says Timoshenko, whose boyfriend is co-owner Adam Eggertsen. “We try to be fit in every aspect of life: agility, strength, power, balance and endurance.” Looking much further down the road, Timoshenko would love to someday go for the ultimate gold. “I’d love to be in the Olympics,” she says.
