LOCAL ROUNDUP Mustangs capture 15th in row The Medford Mustangs keep rolling up wins, picking up their 15th straight in a non-league American Legion contest at Anhorn Field against Solano Concrete of Fairfield, Calif. Medford, 16-1, shut out the visitor on two hits. Pitcher Tim Alvarez improved to 3-0, allowing two hits and no walks in five innings. Medford's Nate Mayben went 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI, while Brent Foster was 1-for-2 with three runs and two RBIs. Charlie Jensen smacked his sixth home run of the season in the third inning to give Medford a 6-0 lead. It was Jensen's third three-run home run in the last three games. The Mustangs took control in the first, taking a 3-0 lead with the help of Jim Pickrel's two-run single. Mayben maintained his 17-game hitting streak with three hits, including a double, but Colby Gonzales' 16-game hitting streak came to a halt. Softball OREGON FILLIES 11, REDDING RENEGADES 0 -- At Fagone Field, the Oregon Fillies captured the Black Tornado Softball Invitational title, blanking Redding in Sunday's championship game. In the third-place game, Portland's Strictly Softball beat the North Medford Black Tornado 8-6. Megumi Hackett led the Fillies, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two stolen bases. Brynnen Guthrie was 2-for-3 with two runs. Missy Coe also chipped in two hits going 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs, while Steph Adams had three RBIs. Hackett, from North Medford High, leads the Fillies with a .696 batting average and 12 stolen bases, while Adams, also from North, has a .500 average with six triples and five RBIs. Guthrie, from Roseburg High, has the third leading batting average on the team with a .455 mark with 20 runs. The Fillies are 7-0.
