In the end, however, it was the Challengers’ transition game that allowed them to threaten the Antlers (13-1, 5-0 SCL) before falling, 61-53. Bonanza, which averages 75 points a game, had opened a 16-point lead in the second half. But when it slowed the pace to run time off the clock, Cascade Christian pounced. The Challengers pulled to within five points in the fourth quarter before the rally fizzled. "Believe it or not, we started forcing some turnovers on their part and getting fastbreaks on them," said Challengers coach Brian Morse. "They started to slow it down and kill the clock, and that gave us an advantage. They were playing back on their heels, and that gave us a little momentum." Advertisement Bonanza opened its lead with a 9-2 run to end the second quarter, thanks in part to four turnovers by the Challengers. The hosts didn’t pack it in, however. "That’s one good thing about this team," said Morse. "We do make some mistakes, but we make it up with hustle and heart. That makes a coach proud. They never die, they never quit." Isaac Hoffman tallied 16 points and eight rebounds for Cascade Christian, and Brandon Fair scored 15 points, including 12 in the second half, and added five assists and three steals. Guards Mike Merkley and Mike Nieraeth combined for 36 points for Bonanza. BONANZA (61) — Masten 2, Buffington 5, Gomez 4, Merkley 17, Nieraeth 19, Bacigalupi 2, Lawrence 8, Hubble 4.
