Regardless, the Black Tornado remained unbeaten in the SOC with a 6-3 victory. "I let my No. 2 spots move up to No 1," North Medford coach Dale Jensen said. "We needed the competition. We won some three-set matches, so the girls showed they had some good focus." No. 1 singles player Sarah Pendergast and the No. 1 doubles duo of McKenzie Hilmer and Lauren Wilson were idle. The Black Tornado (13-1-1, 9-0-1 SOC) won three of four matches in both singles and doubles. Advertisement In No. 2 singles, North’s Amber Chambers went directly from taking her SAT test to the tennis court. Chambers held off Lexi Smith, 6-3, 7-5. "(Chambers) was extremely tired physically and mentally," said Jensen, "but she fought that off." North senior Sonia Aguilera and freshman Erica Shultz were pushed in a three-set victory over Piper Dobner and Lauren Hanson. "In the middle of the second set (Aguilera-Shultz) let up a little bit," said Jensen. "Then they recomposed themselves and put it back together." SINGLES — Rebecca Weicher, GP, d. Track and Field STERLING SAVINGS BANK MAZAMA INVITATIONAL — At Klamath Falls, North Valley’s Levi Roudebush took first in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:47.70, while Rogue River’s Nick Waroff placed second in the 100 (11.22), third in the 200 (23.14) and fourth in the 400 (51.98). Mike Clark’s personal best of 15.45 in the 110 hurdles earned him second, and he also placed fourth in the 200 (23.40) for Cascade Christian. Rogue River’s Danielle Holmes launched her way to first by nearly five feet in the girls shot put with a throw of 39-2¼ , and fellow teammate Michelle Woodall placed second in discus (110-8). North Valley teammates Kayla Wilheim in the 300 hurdles (49.87) and Ashley Gilkey in the 800 (2:28.56) each finished second. The Henley boys (185) and girls (133.5) each took first. The Rogue River boys took fourth place (41), followed by fifth-place Cascade Christian (35). The North Valley girls grabbed seventh (41).
