My fault, no problem. So I went to Fred Meyer to replace them and to my surprise I was able to replace the fishing license (for $25.50) but the clerk refused to sell me a replacement harvest tag, saying they were unauthorized. Since I was planning to fish the next morning, I bought a hatchery harvest tag just to stay in the game. No problem, because I don't kill wild steelhead, anyway. But it dawned on me when I left the store that I need that tag replaced so I can keep some wild fall chinook while trolling the Rogue River bay this summer and fall. The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission two years ago revised how it doles out replacement licenses and tags for hunting, fishing and trapping. You can fill out an application for a duplicate salmon/steelhead, sturgeon and halibut harvest tag and sign an oath stating which licenses/tags were lost. In the case of the harvest tag, you'll have to take that application to the ODFW office at 1495 E. Gregory Road to get your tag replaced. Oh, and bring another $25.50. ODFW lists 27 licenses and tags for which it will issue duplicates, Tag. Of those, 15 are various licenses that vendors such as Fred Meyer can issue over the counter. But the remaining must be done via the sworn affidavit and a visit to an ODFW office. And for that, blame the players, not the game. In the past, cheaters have used the "oh, I lost my salmon-steelhead tag" con to get a second tag after filling their annual tag, which is required to harvest any wild fish when and where it is legal. That's why the sworn affidavit comes with a warning that lying is a punishable offense, and the agency will turn that affidavit over to the cops if they ask. If you've lost, say, a license and a bunch of tags, you can apply to the commission for duplicates of all of them at once and just pay one-time replacement cost of $25.50.
