Camejo Debus, 47, pleaded not guilty to second- and third-degree assault charges as well as reckless driving and driving under the influence of intoxicants stemming from the 11 p.m. wreck, during which the boy suffered a lacerated liver, court records show. The boy was a backseat passenger in a vehicle that collided with Debus' Honda Accord after the Accord turned into the other vehicle's path, according to a Jackson County Sheriff's Department affidavit in the case. The boy initially was taken to Providence Medford Medical Center, then was airlifted to a Portland hospital because of the severity of his injuries, according to the sheriff's affidavit. Debus was taken into custody at the scene and initially lodged in the Jackson County Jail, from which she was released Wednesday. Debus was ordered back into court May 31 for a pretrial conference.
