The walks last two hours and cover about a mile of moderately strenuous terrain. Participants should be at least 8 years old, in reasonably good physical condition and come prepared with warm clothing and water-resistant footwear. No previous snowshoeing experience is necessary. Snowshoes are provided free, and there is no cost for the tour. The park does not collect an entrance fee in the winter. Space is limited, and reservations are required. For information and to sign up, call 541-594-3100. KS Wild outings Saturday, Jan. 10: Explore the oak-covered hills of the Little Applegate on the Sterling Mine Ditch Trail. The trail is accessible year round, so the group will go rain, snow or shine. Carpool will meet at the Ashland Outdoor Store at 9 a.m. Bring water, comfortable walking shoes, dress for the weather in lots of warm layers and a lunch. Saturday, Jan. 17: KS Wild staffer Jeanine Moy and botanical-area adopters will lead a hike to the Rough and Ready Botanical Area in the Illinois Valley. The area is home to some of the most diverse plant life in the region. Time permitting, the group will stop at French Flat, another botanical area at risk for misuse. The group will carpool from Northwest Nature Shop, 154 Oak St., Ashland. Dress in layers and sturdy shoes, and bring water and lunch. Rogue Valley Walkers Saturday, Jan. 3: A 10K walk in east Medford will start at 9:45 a.m. from the Medford Center parking lot on Jackson Street across from Hawthorne Park. Frostbite Run Saturday Jan. 10 : The eighth annual 5K and 10K event will feature a new course, as well as a running injury prevention and treatment clinic following the awards ceremony. Rogue River Half Marathon and Alyssa Watson Memorial 5K Run Saturday, Feb. 21 : The annual races will begin at 10 a.m. in Fleming Park in Rogue River. The half-marathon course goes out and back on the Rogue River Greenway and North River Road. Proceeds will benefit the Hidden Valley High School cross-country program. Camelback Run Saturday, Feb. 28 : The second annual Camelback Run, a 15K race through the hilly roads around Phoenix, will also include an out-and-back 5K and elementary 1-mile run. The 15K starts at 9:15 a.m., and the 5K at 9:30. The miler starts at 8:30. The races will start and finish at the Phoenix High School track, 745 N. Rose St., Phoenix. Rogue Valley Audubon Society Tuesday, Jan. 27 : The Rogue Valley Audubon Society's monthly meeting will feature Forrest English speaking about Rogue Riverkeeper's work to protect clean water and fish throughout the Rogue Basin, and he will touch on how that work can affect birds. Every Saturday: Siskiyou VeloMelo rides begin at various morning hours from different locations. 20 to 25 miles. Rides are easy pace (10-13 mph) and terrain with frequent stops to regroup.
