WHITE CITY Stray bullet from drive-by nearly hits sleeping White City resident One bullet found in resident's pillow Comment By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune MailTribune.com By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Posted May. 24, 2015 at 4:12 PM By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Posted May. 24, 2015 at 4:12 PM » Social News WHITE CITY — A bullet from an apparent drive-by shooting Saturday night came close to hitting someone in their bed while they slept. The Jackson County Sheriff's Department reported that incident happened at 11:42 p.m. at the intersection of Avenue H and Atlantic Avenue. Deputies responded to the area after 911 calls alerting police to what sounded like several gunshots and the sound of a vehicle speeding away. Police arrived on scene but did not find any suspects or vehicles connected to the incident. There were no injuries. Deputies searched the area and found two bullet holes in the side of a home, then found the projectiles had punched their way inside. One of the bullets was recovered from the inside of a pillow on a bed where a resident of the home was sleeping. "At this point in the investigation, it appears that the residence that was struck by the stray bullets was not the intended target," a news release from Sgt. Tim Snaith of the sheriff's department said. The case is still being pursued, though no suspects have been arrested. It's not known whether the incident is gang-related, department officials said. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the sheriff's department at 541-774-6800. Sheriff's department officials said the agency receives numerous noise complaint calls every month for sounds that sound like gunshots, though a majority are caused by fireworks, BB or pellet guns, or other loud noises.
