Free overdose antidote available Wednesday By Mail Tribune staff Updated: Jun 21, 2021 04:26 PM A A Naloxone can reverse opioid overdoses and save lives. File photo The nonprofit group Max’s Mission will give away free naloxone, a medication used to reverse opioid overdoses, from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday on the East Main Street side of Hawthorne Park in Medford. The public is invited to drop in at any time during the event. Training on how to respond to an overdose, including administering naloxone in an easy-to-use nasal spray form, takes only 10 minutes. The antidote can quickly reverse the effects of an overdose from heroin and prescription painkillers such as OxyContin and Percocet. Max’s Mission will also give away test strips for fentanyl, a powerful, often-deadly synthetic drug that dealers often mix with other drugs.
