Phoenix seeks council applicants PHOENIX -- The recent resignation of councilman Dale Draper, who moved to Medford, has left a vacancy on the City Council. Phoenix residents interested in serving on the council are requested to submit an application by Friday. The council is expected to appoint a replacement for Draper at its next regular meeting on Monday. The person appointed will serve the remainder of Draper's term, which expires in December 2002. So far, only planning commissioner Matt Fawcett has submitted an application for the position. Draper, who has served on the council since 1994, was forced to resign Oct. 4 when he sold his home and moved to Medford. He served on the planning commission for a year and a half before becoming a councilman. From his previous home at Bear Lake Mobile Estates in Phoenix, Draper said, he saw firsthand the traffic problems of the Fern Valley Road corridor. Much of his work on the council focused on improving conditions there. He served as the city's liaison to the Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Transportation Advocacy Committee. In addition to the council vacancy, there are two positions open on the parks commission. If Fawcett is appointed to the council, there will also be an opening on the planning commission.
