Fuller was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Flynn 3-for-4 with two doubles and five RBIs for the Grizzlies (6-0), who watched their 12-0 lead shrink to 12-7, only to tack on 12 more runs to end the game after the fifth inning by the 10-run mercy rule. Springfield (0-7) and Ashland square off again in a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday in Ashland. Nick Sanderson started on the mound for the Grizzlies but lost his control in the second and was pulled in favor of Kellar Edwards, who held Springfield to one earned run in 2⅔ innings to pick up the win. Caleb Bell pitched a scoreless fifth. Daley had two hits and two RBIs in the second inning, and Fuller added a two-run double in the frame. EAGLE POINT 9, NORTH EUGENE 6: At Eugene, Ryan Lorenz had the go-ahead two-run single in the top of the seventh inning for Eagle Point in the Midwestern League opener. Lorenz, who finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored, recorded the key hit with two outs for the Eagles (3-2, 1-0 MWL), who trailed 6-5 entering the final frame. Johnathan Wilson was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Dylan Marsh 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs against North Eugene (4-2, 0-1). South Umpqua broke open a 4-3 contest with four runs in the top of the seventh but Phoenix (1-4) came roaring back thanks to an RBI single by Mobley, two-run single by Truex and another two runs following an error on a grounder by Courtney. MARY’S 4, GLIDE 1: At Glide, pitcher Joe Johnson allowed a first-inning run then blanked last year’s Class 3A state runner-up the rest of the way for undefeated St. Mary’s (5-0). Johnson (2-0) allowed three hits and struck out 11, and also belted a two-run homer in the fifth inning. The Crusaders erased a 1-0 deficit on Jose Perez’s two-run single in the third.
