By Anita Burke A Friday night fight in White City sent three people to the hospital and resulted in assault charges against three men, the Jackson County Sheriff's Department reported. At about 11:20 p.m. Friday, deputies and Eagle Point police went to a home in the 3700 block of Avenue H to investigate a report of an assault possibly linked to domestic violence, Sheriff's Lt. Rich Fogarty said in a Monday news release. Eagle Point police stopped a car leaving the house and interviewed the couple inside, Ryan Butler, 28, and Gina Butler, 39, while deputies went to the house where the fight reportedly started, Fogarty said. The Butlers said they had gone to the Avenue H home to visit friends. While they were there, three other residents of the home — Orlin Denny Larsen Jr., 33, Jordan Andrew Bartlett, 18, and Christopher Charles Martin, 22 — arrived, all apparently intoxicated, Fogarty said. The people at the house told investigators that Larsen's girlfriend tried to get him to calm down because he was loud and argumentative, the news release said. When he reacted aggressively to her, the Butlers tried to intervene, but Larsen, Bartlett and Martin attacked them, police said. Ryan Butler told investigators that he was knocked unconscious briefly. When he regained consciousness, the melee was still under way. He pulled a pocket knife out of a pocket in his pants, unfolded the blade and demanded that the three men stop the assault or he would stab them, police said. They challenged him to make good on his threat and continued to fight. Butler stabbed Larsen, then fled with his wife, police said. The assailants followed them out of the house and continued to beat them while the couple struggled to unlock their parked car. They finally got inside the car and sped away. Eagle Point police stopped them shortly thereafter. Detectives took statements, collected physical evidence and consulted with prosecutors before deciding to charge Larsen, Bartlett and Martin with third-degree assault. Bartlett and Martin appeared in Jackson County Circuit Court Monday on charges of third- and fourth-degree assault. They remained lodged in the Jackson County Jail Monday night, with bail set at $10,000 after their appearances, court records show. Larsen was taken to Rogue Valley Medical Center for treatment. Hospital officials said he has since been released. Court records indicate that he faces two counts of fourth-degree assault and a tampering with a witness charge, as well as the third-degree assault charge. The Butlers were treated and released at Providence Medford Medical Center. They have not been charged with a crime. The investigation continues, Fogarty said.
