South Ashland grass fire contained at half an acre By Mail Tribune staff Updated: Jul 16, 2022 05:59 PM A A A grass fire that broke Saturday evening in south Ashland was quickly stopped from spreading, according to Oregon Department of Forestry officials. Multiple ODF and Jackson County Fire District No. 5 engines were on scene and en route to what was first reported at 5:16 p.m. Saturday as a vegetation fire in the 2300 block of Ashland Street near Exit 14, according to a brief update issued by ODF Southwest Oregon District and dispatch information via PulsePoint. As of 5:38 p.m. Saturday, ODF stated on its official Facebook page that ODF and Fire District 5 stopped the spread at an estimated half an acre with no structures threatened, and that mop up work would begin shortly. Firefighters say the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
