Crater finds two aces in the hole CENTRAL POINT Crater dug deep into its arsenal of pitchers Monday, using two junior varsity hurlers to stymie South Albany for a non-conference baseball sweep at Anhorn Field. With varsity starter Derek Peterson still recovering from a thigh injury, another Comet hurler on a church mission to Los Angeles and a third battling migraine problems, Crater coach Chuck Dominiak put the ball in the hands of Kevin Mulder and Trent Kingsbury on Monday. Unfazed, they never gave it up as each went the distance as Crater (4-1) swept South Albany, 13-3 and 8-4. "Were really struggling right now pitching-wise," said Dominiak. "Its good for (Mulder and Kingsbury) to get some experience. I thought they did a great job. They both went out and pitched a good game of baseball." Each pitcher was staked to an early lead to settle the nerves. Craters Jared Maddocks drilled a two-run homer and a double in going 3-for-3 in the opener, while Chris Pettegrew went 3-for-4 with an RBI. For the day, David Sills went 6-for-7 in the double dip, while Ken Strate was 5-for-9 as Crater totaled 27 hits. "I thought we hit the ball pretty decent," said Dominiak. "I dont think we had a strikeout in the whole day. As long as you put the ball in play someones bound to make an error sometime." Trent Hackstate hit a grand slam in the nightcap to supply all of South Albanys runs.
