Sun will keep day pleasant The sunshine may be a bit scarce for summer�s biggest holiday, but it�s not expected to rain on anyone�s parade. The Fourth of July forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies in the morning and partly cloudy skies in the afternoon around the Rogue Valley. "We�re going to stay on the cool side," says Roger Gerig of the National Weather Service. Highs are expected to be in the low 70s for Medford and Grants Pass and close to 70 for Ashland. Light winds are forecast for this morning, picking up to 5 to 15 mph by afternoon. Temperatures in the mountains, at Butte Falls or Diamond Lake, will be even cooler. Crater Lake�s high is forecast to be in the 50s. There�s no rain in today�s forecast (though some drops may fall come Wednesday), so the weather should be pleasant enough to enjoy any one of the numerous Independence Day celebrations planned. Here are city-by-city specifics: ASHLAND 8 a.m.-5 p.m. -- Free shuttle bus service every 20 minutes from Bear Valley Center, next to Butler Ford, and from Tolman Creek Plaza by Albertson�s. 8:15 a.m. -- Fourth of July Fun Run starts at the Ashland Library. 9:30 a.m. -- Flyover begins the parade, which starts at Triangle Park. 11 a.m.-5 p.m. -- Food, games and a craft fair at Lithia Park. 11:45 a.m. -- Reading of Declaration of Independence by Barry Kraft. Noon -- Mayor�s welcome address. 12:15 p.m. -- Musical entertainment at the bandshell with performances by the Ashland City Band, the Mike Quinn Band, Shamwari Marimba Ensemble and Alethia Norwisky. Noon-5 p.m. -- Rogue Valley Powwow, Siskiyou Stompers, Siskiyou Aikikai Dai Dojo performances on the Second Stage. 8 p.m. -- American Band College Concert, Ashland High School stadium. 10 p.m. -- Fireworks display, with simultaneous music broadcast. CENTRAL POINT 6-10 a.m. -- Fire District No. 3 serves a pancake breakfast at City Hall. Cost is $3.50 for adults, $3 for kids 5-12, and free for kids under 5. Folks eating between 6 and 7 a.m. get 50 cents off. 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. -- Family Festival at Robert Pfaff Park. Includes food booths, games and commercial vendors. 10 a.m. -- Parade down Pine Street. 11 a.m.-4 p.m. -- Entertainment takes place in the park as well. All the Kings Men headline. There also will be some dance groups and other musical entertainment. Noon -- Flag-raising ceremony in the park. 10 p.m. -- Fireworks at Crater High School. The stadium is open and the south end of the field area also will be open to the public. The track area and center track are off-limits. No coolers and no personal fireworks may be brought into the stadium; $1 donation if you go inside the stadium. BUTTE FALLS 9 a.m.. -- Booths and games start in City Park. 11 a.m. -- Parade. DIAMOND LAKE A fishing derby takes place all day. Prizes will be awarded. 11 a.m.-2 p.m. -- Scavenger hunt and lawn games in front of the lodge. Noon-8 p.m. -- Great Smoky barbecue is served. 2-4 p.m. -- Music on the front lawn. 10 p.m. -- Fireworks show. 11 p.m.-2 a.m. -- Music and dancing in the Diamond Room Lounge. EAGLE POINT 7-11 a.m. -- Breakfast at the grange. Cost is $4.50 for adults and $2 for those 12 and under. 8 a.m. -- Fun run. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. -- Booths open on Main Street. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. -- Art show featuring photos by Michael A. Campanelli at the Senior Center. 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. -- Beer garden opens. True Value Country Showdown takes place from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. The beer garden is at the corner of Main and Royal streets. 1 p.m. -- Parade starts. Lawnmower races follow, then fire department water fight. 4 p.m. -- Great Zucchini Race at Mattie Brown Park. 6:30 p.m. -- Stadium food concessions open, include a barbecue; games for all ages. Dusk -- Fireworks. Skydivers will arrive before the fireworks.
