The Oregon Department of Forestry reported projects eligible for the grants are typically within the range of one to five acres, receiving a rate of $500 per acre. Grants are available for property owners on Wagner Creek, Anderson Creek, Pioneer, Coleman Creek, Griffin Creek, West Griffin Creek, South Stage, Sterling Creek, Poorman Creek, China Gulch, Forest Creek, Hamilton, Thompson Creek and Humbug Creek roads; and on Upper Applegate Road from Ruch to Little Applegate Road; North Applegate Road from Applegate to Kubli Road; Highway 238 between Provolt and Jacksonville; and parts of Jacksonville. To qualify, landowners or agents must contact ODF to schedule a property assessment appointment at 541-664-3328. They must also agree to the area and project parameters, then complete the work. Upon completion, the landowner or agent will receive a reimbursement check in the mail. Landowners outside the grant areas can still get a free property assessment pertaining to wildland fire safety.
