South Medford storms back, only to have Indians pull away A big comeback fell a bit short for the South Medford High volleyball team on Thursday night. Down 14-5 in the third game, the Panthers closed the gap to 14-12 before Roseburg notched the final point for the win. The final score was 15-13, 7-15, 15-12 in favor of the Indians. Crystal Peterson had 17 kills and Megan Berry picked up 30 assists for South Medford in the losing effort. Annie Hoffmeirer had seven digs and Gina Alvis registered four aces and had 12 digs for the Panthers, who fell to 4-8 in SOC play. With the win, Roseburg remained in third place in conference play with a mark of 8-4. NORTH MEDFORD 15-15, Crater 1-2 --Serving streaks by Kendra Mitchell in Game 1 and Jill Carrigan in Game 2 carried the Black Tornado to the win. Mitchell served North to a 6-1 lead in the opening game and Carrigan served the final six points to wrap up the second game. Carrigan had five kills and four digs, Mitchell four kills and three blocks and Chaley Higgins finished with four kills and three blocks. North Medford (10-8, 7-5 SOC) will try to nail down a state playoff berth with wins over Klamath Union Tuesday and South Medford Thursday at home next week. GRANTS PASS 15-15, EAGLE POINT 2-6 -- Christina Pierce had five kills and six blocks to lead Grants Pass to the easy win. Colleen Davidson added four blocks and two kills for Grants Pass (4-8). Eagle Point fell to 0-12 in the Southern Oregon Conference.
