Darion Lee "Spirit Sparrow" Lucero, 21, was last seen April 9 after leaving a camping area near "Buddha Hole," a swimming hole on the Sacramento River, with the intention of crossing the north fork of the river to get back to his own campsite. The river flows into Lake Siskiyou. A sheriff's release said there was no obvious sign of foul play, but decomposition of the body meant further investigation is needed to confirm a cause of death. Anyone with information about Lucero's activities on or after April 9 is asked to contact the Siskiyou County Dispatch Center at 530-841-2900. Siskiyou County deputies, search and rescue, U.S. Forest Service and California Highway Patrol mounted an unsuccessful search for Lucero over two weeks. A citizen found the body floating off the north shore of Lake Siskiyou, a 26,000-acre-feet reservoir near Mount Shasta, Calif. The release said people should be cautious when crossing streams, especially this time of year. "Weather and stream flows can change rapidly in mountainous areas, and hikers and campers should be prepared for changing conditions and exercise safety precautions to avoid the many hazards in these areas," the release said.
