Owls defeat Guy-guided SOU, 88-77 KLAMATH FALLS -- Donnie Guy was the main guy for the Southern Oregon University men's basketball team on Thursday night, but the 5-foot-10 point guard from Alaska couldn't carry the Raiders to victory. Guy pumped in a game-high 30 points and sank all 12 of his free throw attempts in an 88-77 loss to Oregon Tech. "He almost single-handedly kept us in the game in the first half," SOU coach Brian McDermott said. "He had 16 points at the half and hit some big 3-pointers." The Raiders led 42-41 at the break but Oregon Tech charged back in the second half to win going away. Saif Abdur-Rahman led Oregon Tech with 29 points, including 20 in the first half. "He's a tough matchup for us," McDermott said of Abdur-Rahman, "but Shavon Hayes played him tough in the second half." Gerald Boston and Bob Townsend added 14 points each for Oregon Tech. Tom Chipps chipped in 16 points for the Raiders, who fell to 6-4. Oregon Tech led by as many as 12 points in the second half, but the Raiders rallied and went ahead by a basket with eight minutes to play. But then the Owls re-established control, thanks in part to their 3-point shooting. Oregon Tech made 9-of-22 from the 3-point line and hit 29 of 59 shots overall. Moreover, the Owls sank 21 of 24 free throws, while SOU was a not-so-impressive 24 of 38 from the line. "We can't let them have the open looks they had tonight," McDermott said. "We were a little bit out of sync most at both ends of the court." McDermott feared the Raiders would be in for a long night after three of their players got into a car wreck early this week. Another player became ineligible this week and center Scott Logue sprained his ankle in practice, then re-sprained it during Thursday's game. "We haven't had a good week of practice, to say the least," McDermott said. "Considering everything we've been through, we played pretty well."
