Carol Ann Kinsella, 39, of the 1100 block of Gatepark Drive in Central Point, faces charges of second-, third- and fourth-degree assault, failure to perform the duties of a driver to injured people, failure to perform the duties of a driver regarding property damage, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, recklessly endangering another person, reckless driving, resisting arrest and second-degree criminal mischief. According to a police affidavit, a Central Point police officer attempted to stop Kinsella on July 17 for having no front license plate, but she ran a stop sign and drove away. She eventually stopped her car, but then turned around and accelerated toward the officer's vehicle before veering away and crashing on a nearby street, the affidavit states. Kinsella allegedly struck a Ford truck, causing significant damage to the car. The Central Point police officer stopped to contact the owner of the truck at the intersection of Juanita Way and Coachman Drive in Central Point, the affidavit said. At some point after Kinsella crashed, she allegedly had five child passengers and one man leave the car, then drove away from the scene of the crash without helping them get medical attention, the affidavit said. The affidavit did not say how many of the children were Kinsella's. Medford police located Kinsella at the corner of Rossanley Drive and Sage Road in Medford and the Central Point officer came to the scene, the affidavit says. Kinsella allegedly told the Central Point officer she decided to run from police because she wanted to attend her son's birthday party at the Family Fun Center at The Expo in Central Point, but knew she had warrants out for her arrest and would be apprehended if she was stopped. Central Point police later responded to a call from the Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center stating a 12-year-old girl was being treated for injuries she sustained in a crash while her mother was eluding police, an affidavit said. The girl had visible injuries to her side and face and reported pain in her back, leg and head, the affidavit said. Kinsella has another pending court case from 2014 in which she faces charges of reckless driving and fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer. She also faces charges of reckless driving, recklessly endangering another person, second-degree disorderly conduct and harassment from a 2015 case, and a charge of tampering with drug records from a case this year. After being arrested following the July 17 crash, Kinsella was released from the Jackson County Jail on her own recognizance on July 19. She failed to appear in court Wednesday for hearings on her four pending court cases, according to court records. Kinsella was previously convicted of possession of methamphetamine.
