In its first year, Living Ideas will focus on OSF’s world premiere of "Sweat," by Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright Lynn Nottage. An American Revolutions commission, "Sweat" explores how a Pennsylvania city is impacted by layoffs, outsourcing and factory closures in the local steel industry. In partnership with Jackson County Library Services, Living Ideas will look at similar effects in timber industry communities of Oregon and the Northwest through discussions at local libraries and at the OSF campus. Many of the events will be streamed digitally. Here are some of the events: Sept. 9-10: Conversation Project: "Toward One Oregon: Uniting Rural and Urban Oregon.” Michael Hibbard and Bruce Weber lead a conversation on the challenging issues that divide urban and rural Oregonians and their communities. 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Medford library and Sept. 10 at the Ashland library. Free. Sept. 19: Documentary and Dialogue: A mini documentary festival discussion and community-building exercises with filmmakers, psychologists and community planners will be held. Noon to 5 p.m., Carpenter Hall at OSF. Free but reserve tickets by calling the OSF box office at 800-219-8161 or visit osfashland.org. Oct. 3: Art and Community Dialogue: Actors from "Sweat" will perform select scenes from the play, hold a panel discussion and conduct a small workshop for attendees to write and share their own stories. 6 to 9 p.m., Medford library. Free.  Oct. 17: Interactive Debate: “Economic Recovery Benefits Everyone.” Modeled after the PBS Intelligence Squared U.S. debates series, this event will be streamed digitally via Google Hangouts on Air, allowing live and virtual audiences to participate in the debate. 9 to 11 a.m., Thomas Theatre at OSF.
