Jackson County Fire District 3 crews were called at around 3 a.m. Friday when an employee saw smoke pouring from under a door, said Battalion Chief Greg Winfrey. He estimates the fire was smoldering for about two hours in the attic before crews arrived. Investigators would later find the cause to be hot metal filings igniting oily rags in a trash can, Winfrey said. "There was a lot of damage, but the fire was fairly easy to knock down," he added. The blaze did an estimated $50,000 in damage. Five engines and 22 firefighters were on the scene. The plant was not shut down and no injuries were reported. Would you like to respond to this story?
