Watson, who competed at the University of Oregon through last spring, then became Rogue Community College's first cross country coach, won today's 10-mile race in 51 minutes, 14 seconds. The record for the race that starts and ends in downtown Medford is 49:10, set by Max King in 2011. Chris Platano of Portland was second in 53:31, and former North Medford High and Washington State runner Drew Jordan was third in 54:45. On the women's side, Carrie Fleskes of Medford improved on her third place of last year with a victory in 1:06:29. She was followed by Molly Schmelzle of Ashland in 1:07:33 and Janelle Ralph of White City in 1:07:52. Neither of last year's winners, Trevor Palmer in the men's and Marci Klimek Gage in the women's, competed. Both were out with injuries. Cory Hartgraves captured the wheelchair race in 41:22. Winners in the 5K race were Central Point's Erik Olsen for the men in 16:45 and Ashland's Amelia Bueche for the women in 19:54.
