Continued hot, dry, windy weather soon will push fire danger into the extreme category, said Dennis Turco, a department fire-prevention specialist. As of today, potentially fire-causing activities that had been banned in the afternoon now are prohibited through the day, he said. Between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m., people can’t use chainsaws, do nonagricultural mowing of dry grass or use power-driven machinery for non-industrial purposes. Also, debris burning is prohibited and smoking is banned around flammable vegetation. Metal-cutting, grinding and welding are prohibited near vegetation. Campfires are allowed only in improved campgrounds and fireworks are permitted only in cleared areas. Off-road vehicle use is barred. Advertisement The industrial fire precaution level for commercial forest operations remains at level 2.
