Oregon Wine Competition judge and internationally renowned Master of Wine Tim Hanni is among the guest instructors. Classes typically cost $39, although there is a $20 session Aug. 20, and a $68 event in which participants get to keep four Riedel Vinum glasses. Hanni pops the cork for the series with an 11 a.m. Aug. 6 class at Southern Oregon University, enabling attendees to consistently find wines they love. A Food & Wine Pairing class with chef Mario Chavez follows at 4 p.m. Aug. 7 at the Onyx Restaurant on the Nunan Estate in Jacksonville. Liz Wan will offer "25 Things You Thought You Knew About Wine" at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Josephine County Library in Grants Pass. Brush strokes in the vines with Tia McKenzie follows at 11 a.m. Aug. 13 at Serra Vineyards. No art experience is necessary, and each student will not only create but also take home their masterpiece. Tom Van Vorhees of Rogue Creamery will discuss wine and cheese pairings at 11 a.m. Aug. 14 at EdenVale Winery. Vorhees will pair some of his favorite cheeses of the season with his favorite Southern Oregon medal-winning wines from last year's competition. Bob Harrington leads a hospitality class at 11 a.m. Aug. 20 at SOU. Harrington will demonstrate how to inspire exceptional service, enthusiasm and innovation at your business. "The Power of Cabernet Sauvignon: An Exploration of Oregon & Washington Terroir" will be conducted at Kriselle Cellars at 11 a.m. Aug. 21. "Southern Oregon vs. The Old World" will be offered under the Big Tent at Bigham Knoll at 6 p.m. Aug. 22. Peter Adesman leads a side-by-side tasting of some of the best wines produced in the Old World and some of the best produced in Southern Oregon. "Wine 101" is offered at 6 p.m. Aug. 23 in the Big Tent at Bigham Knoll. Guests will learn how to choose, pair, and serve wine for a variety of situations. Participants will learn how to evaluate wine, how to pick the best wines for their favorite foods and tips to understanding tasting notes. The Riedel Glass Seminar at 6 p.m. Aug. 25 at Bigham Knoll will demonstrate how the variation of the glass affects the flavor of wine. In 2015, Oregon Wine Experience attracted more than 2,100 visitors and raised more than $500,000, allowing for a new child life specialist at Rogue Regional Medical Center.
