Mail Tribune 100, Dec. 2, 1922 continued By Alissa Corman Dec 03, 2022 12:00 AM A A News from 100 years ago The following news items were drawn from the archives of the Mail Tribune 100 years ago Dec. 2, 1922 continued TRYING TO GET A POST-SEASON GAME WITH CORVALLIS Considerable talk regarding a post-season game with Corvallis is being circulated by supporters of the local high school football team and Medford businessmen seem to favor such a contest heartily, all being in favor of playing the game here. It is said that Bill Brain, California official who umpired the Thanksgiving Day game here, stated that he had officiated at the semi-final games in the California state championship and that he had not seen a California team capable of defeating Medford. It is understood that he suggested that Medford challenge the winner of the game between Berkeley and Bakersfield high schools. Although such a contest does not look probable at present, efforts are being made by local high school officials to secure a game with Corvallis providing that the state athletic board will allow such a contest. The three contenders left in Oregon are Astoria, Corvallis and Medford. On Thanksgiving Day Corvallis defeated Salem 12-0 and Medford defeated Forest Grove 41 to 2. During the present season Medford has rolled up 350 points against other high schools while they have scored only 10 points against Medford. The only high school making a touchdown against Medford this season was Grants Pass in a game at the end of which the score stood: Medford 86; Grants Pass 6. SALE XMAS SEALS LAUNCHED TODAY The sale of Christmas Seals began today in the stores and offices, although the mail list was sent out the first of the week, and has brought in generous returns. The College Women’s club opened the sale today ... We have had a number of inquiries as to the amount we received for our home work. Heretofore we have received 25 percent, but this year we have a sliding scale, according to the seals sold per capita, which ranges from 1 to 4 per capita, 30 percent; 4 to 5 per capita, 35 percent; 5 to 6 per capita, 45 percent; 6 to 7 per capita, 50 percent; 7 or over per capita, 50 percent, so it is up to the people of Jackson County to set their own rate of percentages which we hope will allow us to take advantage of the very highest. “The good they do, depends on you.” — Alissa Corman; [email protected]
