Smith sprints home with Speedway�s big prize WHITE CITY � A monster night of 127 cars, including the sprint cars, made for action-packed racing at the Southern Oregon Speedway Saturday night. Cottage Grove�s Dale Smith took home $1,500 for winning the Sprint Car Feature. Smith was dialed in throughout the 30-lap main event, which marked the third and final stop of the year for the Sprint Cars. The Winged Modified feature ended with Dan Estremado taking the checkered and a nasty five-car pile-up on the final lap of the 20-lap event. Gold Hill�s Estremado snatched the lead from Dave Duste Sr., last week�s feature winner, just before a yellow flag on the 18th lap and held on after the restart, managing to avoid the mass of cars who were entangled in front of the finish line. The win marked the sixth of the season for Estremado, the defending class champion. Action in the Winged Modifieds also included a fine battle for the B Main pitting local racing legends Dane Smith and Bruce Rayburn. Smith took the checkered, edging Rayburn by inches. Patrick Lanigan continued his domination in the Super Trucks, winning his sixth feature of the season. Lanigan took the lead on the fifth lap and added to his points lead in the process. Tracy Bradley led the way in the Mini Stocks, winning his seventh feature and adding to his lead in the points standings. The win in the feature marked a clean sweep for Bradley, who also won his heat and the trophy dash. Pro Stocks points leader Frank Word III was slowed by a mid-race flat tire and runner-up Brad Alfrey was involved in a four-car pile-up on the final lap of the feature. Jeremy Richey, currently third in the points, took advantage of the mishaps and won his third feature of the season. Butch Poppa led for the first half of the race before Alfrey and Richey did battle over the final laps. Jon DeBenedetti took the latest step toward wrapping up another season title in the Dwarf Cars. DeBenedetti led for all but the first two of the 20-lap feature, notching his sixth feature win of 2000.
