Raymond Leroy Laux, Jr., 52, of the 200 block of North Ivy Street in Medford, and Justin Ray Dodd, 30, of the 700 block of East Nevada Street in Ashland, both face charges of second-degree burglary, first-degree theft and first-degree criminal mischief over the alleged burglary of a recreational vehicle. Dodd entered not guilty pleas to the charges Wednesday. Laux was scheduled to be arraigned on the charges Wednesday, but his court date was canceled, court records show. Laux has a history of leaving evidence behind at a crime scene. In 2003, he was sentenced to nearly six years in prison after robbing a U.S. Bank branch and losing his hat while pedaling away on a bike from the bank's parking lot. According to a probable cause affidavit, the burglary of a recreational vehicle at Advanced Truck Body & Equipment Co. in Central Point was reported June 4, along with an attempted entry into a Chevrolet pickup. More than $6,000 damage was done to the vehicles. Tools, air compressors, DVDs, a television and tool boxes valued at more than $1,000 were stolen from the RV and storage trailers. An empty wine bottle that had been stolen from inside the locked RV was recovered at the scene, the affidavit said. Latent fingerprints belonging to Laux and Dodd, who both have criminal records, were identified on the bottle on July 28. Laux allegedly told investigators he had acted as the look-out while Dodd burglarized the location. Laux allegedly said he and Dodd smoked methamphetamine and drank the wine at the scene, according to the affidavit. Laux allegedly said the two had to rush away and leave the stolen goods behind because someone else arrived. Police believe an employee who arrived at work at 3:45 a.m. interrupted the crime in progress, the affidavit said. When Dodd was interviewed by investigators, he offered a different story, allegedly saying the wine bottle was stolen from him, the affidavit said.
