Registration is required by Thursday, Feb. 18. The Grants Pass event will be held at the Redwood Transfer Station, and the White City event will be held at the Rogue Disposal Transfer Station. Organizers say the events will help large farms and commercial or industrial pesticide applicators clean out their sheds and warehouses of old, unusable and potentially illegal pesticides. Pesticides that have been banned or restricted, were left on properties at time of transfer, or that are no longer useful can all be brought in for free disposal to either of the events, according to a press release. Pesticides accepted for disposal include DDT, Lorsban, Guthion, Malathion, Sevin and others. Materials not accepted are waste paint, waste oil, and home-use pesticides (household waste collection events are planned in White City in May and in Grants Pass in the fall). Triple-rinsed or pressure-washed plastic pesticide containers can also be disposed at these events. Appointments can be made once registration forms are received. No registration is needed for container disposal. Registration forms are available at www.jswcd.org . Assistance with the form is available from Graham Gadzia of Clean Harbors Environmental Services at 206-900-3930. Local assistance is available through Patton Environmental LLC at 541-690-9983. Partners of the event include the Oregon departments of Agriculture, Environmental Quality and Forestry, Oregon Health Authority, Medford Water Commission, Jackson and Josephine Soil & Water Conservation Districts, Rogue Disposal and Recycling, Southern Oregon Sanitation, Oregon Health Authority, Oregon State University Extension Service, Rogue River Watershed Council, Clean Harbors Environmental Services and Patton Environmental LLC.
