Jackson County Sheriff's deputies arrested Gary Wayne Rodgers around 12:24 p.m. Monday after taking a report of shots fired in the 300 block of Fee Street. According to a probable cause statement filed in Jackson County Circuit Court, Rodgers' brother told dispatchers that Rodgers, 67, had shot at his truck with a rifle as he was backing out onto the street. Gary Rodgers told deputies that his brother had threatened to kill Rodgers' girlfriend, but the brother denied that Gary Rodgers even had a girlfriend. Rodgers later told deputies that he was mad at his brother because he had taken two of his guns away from him, the affidavit says. According to the affidavit, the bullet hit the right side of the truck, entering the frame between the back door and back window and exiting through the window. Deputies were unable to determine where the bullet finally ended up. Rodgers was booked in the Jackson County Jail on charges of unlawful use of a weapon, menacing, second-degree disorderly conduct, first-degree criminal mischief and three counts of recklessly endangering. A district attorney's information filed today formally charges Rodgers with unlawful use of a weapon, attempted first-degree assault and attempted second-degree assault.
