NFL Re-signing Suh is Lions' top priority Comment By Detroit Free Press MailTribune.com By Detroit Free Press Posted Jan. 6, 2015 @ 2:00 am By Detroit Free Press Posted Jan. 6, 2015 @ 2:00 am » Social News Now that the season is over, the Detroit Lions can turn their attention to re-signing defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. And according to Lions coach Jim Caldwell, they’ll spend plenty of time trying to get a deal done. “That will continue to be one of our highest priorities,” Caldwell said at his season wrap-up news conference Monday. “That’s going to be addressed constantly here until we come to some conclusion.” The Lions cut off contract talks with Suh before the start of the season, but have insisted since last winter they want to sign the three-time All-Pro to a new long-term deal. Suh’s rookie contract voids five days after the Super Bowl, and his next one should make him one of the highest-paid defensive players in the NFL. The Lions have not ruled out using the franchise tag to restrict Suh’s movement as a free agent, but at a cost of $26.9 million that would limit what else they could do this offseason to improve their team. Suh, who held an emotional postgame news conference after Sunday’s 24-20 wild-card loss to the Dallas Cowboys, is coming off maybe his best year as a pro. He had 8.5 sacks in the regular season, another two in the playoffs, and was the biggest reason the Lions ranked No. 1 against the run this year. He declined comment on his future Sunday. “There’s no question about it, he’s a dominant, dominant player who we benefit from greatly having his services,” Caldwell said. “He’s a tremendous asset to our team, and I’ll leave it at that. He’s quite a player.” By Detroit Free Press MailTribune.com By Detroit Free Press Posted Jan. 6, 2015 @ 2:00 am » Comment or view comments Reader Reaction » STAY INFORMED Email NewsLetter Sign Up Today Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox. fantasy football Vegas Odds, Top Fantasy Picks for Saturday Divisional Games Jan. 10, 2015 at 9:00 am Fantasy League Guide to Divisional Sunday Jan. 10, 2015 at 6:48 am Fantasy League Guide to Divisional Saturday Jan. 9, 2015 at 6:23 am Best FanDuel, DraftKings 2015 Divisional Lineup Advice Jan. 8, 2015 at 7:00 am Latest Odds, Stat Prediction for Ravens vs. Pats Jan. 7, 2015 at 8:00 am Latest Odds, Stat Predictions for Panthers vs. Seahawks Jan. 7, 2015 at 8:00 am calendar Connect with MailTribune.com Facebook Twitter RSS Back to top Reader Services Reader Services Home Subscriptions Subscriber controls Contact us Submissions Photos Events Letters to the editor Corrections Announcements Obituaries Story ideas Since you asked Alerts Email Alerts RSS Feeds Text Alerts Advertise Media Kit Home Products and services Ad rates Advertising contacts Mail Tribune Daily Tidings The Nickel Shop Our Valley Blogs Stay Informed Email newsletter Sign Up Today Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox.
