Ashland pair who fled with child arrested in Florida Trevor Long Thursday Dec 22, 2016 at 5:52 PM Dec 22, 2016 at 5:52 PM Florida authorities Thursday arrested an Ashland couple who had evaded police since October when they left town with their 7-year-old daughter in violation of a court order. Trevor Forrest Long, 33, and Sara Margaret Long, 43, were apprehended with the help of the Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force at an Orlando, Fla., hotel, according to an Ashland Police Department release. Police believe the Longs picked up their child from Helman Elementary School on Oct. 7. The child had been placed under protective custody of Department of Human Services Child Welfare for unknown reasons in September. She was then placed in custody of her mother under multiple conditions, including that the child not have contact with her father. When the mother missed a court appearance on Oct. 5, the Department of Human Services placed the child with a relative, fearful Sara Long was attempting to reunite with Trevor, according to an Ashland Police Department press release. On Oct. 5, Trevor Long was arrested by Jackson County sheriff's deputies on felony charges of coercion and strangulation, and on misdemeanor charges of strangulation, fourth-degree assault and harassment. Court records allege Trevor Long tried to strangle Sara Long in the presence of their daughter on June 10. Their daughter attempted to aid her mother and was shoved to the ground, records allege. Records also allege Trevor Long assaulted his wife on June 19 and again on June 20, hitting her several times, pulling hair out of her head and bruising her arm and leg. On Oct. 19, a Jackson County grand jury indicted the Longs on first- and second-degree custodial interference for removing their daughter from DHS possession. Circuit Court Judge Lorenzo Mejia issued a warrant for their arrest.
