Is it legal to ride an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) on neighborhood streets? It's very noisy when one of our neighbors down the way decides to give kids a ride! -- Trent R., Medford Your neighbors should enjoy the fun while it lasts, Trent, because if a Medford police officer spots them riding the ATV there will be heck to pay. Or at least a citation, according to Lt. Bob Hansen. ATVs are made for off-road adventures and nothing more, Hansen said. "Because they are not licensed and there are no helmet laws that apply to them you can't take them on public streets," he said. Advertisement Among other things, ATV drivers could be cited for having no insurance, not wearing a helmet and the vehicle could be towed and impounded. Hansen said there hasn't been a push for the Department of Motor Vehicles and the Legislature to hammer out guidelines for ATVs on city streets. "Why they haven't figured anything out yet, I'm not sure," Hansen said. Send questions to "Since You Asked," Mail Tribune Newsroom, P.O.
