Medford police reported on the agency's Facebook page that 19-year-old Trevor Berryman walked into the 7-Eleven at 1220 Crater Lake Ave. at 1:20 a.m. Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau said the store clerk was at the counter helping a customer and was on the phone with a vendor. Berryman allegedly walked around the counter, grabbed the clerk by the throat and demanded money before throwing a punch. The clerk dodged it and tossed Berryman to the ground. The customer, 35-year-old Octavio Teran, ran around the counter and broke the fight up, Budreau said. He and Berryman went outside and got in their own scuffle before leaving the scene. "For whatever reason, (he) chose to assist the robber in escaping the event," Budreau said, adding investigators initially thought the two were in cahoots but later dropped that idea. Police found Teran and Berryman walking nearby. Berryman was arrested on robbery charges and lodged in the Jackson County Jail. Teran was lodged on charges of trespass, disorderly conduct and interfering with a police officer. Both men were later released on their own recognizance, according to jail officials.
