In both cases, the juvenile suspects were the ones who "found" the threats and told authorities at the school about them. In the first instance, at noon, the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety's school resource officer assigned to the Grants Pass School District was told about the bomb threat located inside a female bathroom. The threat warned of a bomb set to go off at 12:20 p.m. in the cafeteria. The cafeteria was evacuated and students relocated to the Performing Arts Center, where they were met by police. A search of the building was conducted, and the Oregon State Police bomb squad was notified, along with Grants Pass Fire and Rescue. Nothing was found. The female student accused of making the threat was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and initiating a false report. She was taken to a juvenile detention facility in Douglas County, available on a contract basis with Josephine County. During the arrest of the girl, a second threat came in, also written in a bathroom, and also predicting a time for the bomb to go off. A suspect was identified, a boy this time, and he was arrested on the same charges as the girl. The boy was released to his parents because no more contract beds were available in Douglas County. The Grants Pass Department of Public Safety said any threats against schools are taken seriously. Anyone with information regarding the bomb threats is asked to call the department at 541-450-6260.
