UPDATED: Police shooting reported in Grants Pass Thursday Oct 13, 2016 at 9:44 AM Oct 13, 2016 at 4:14 PM GRANTS PASS — Police shot and killed a man Thursday morning who reportedly advanced on officers with a knife following a car crash on Highway 199. The shooting occurred just before 8 a.m. on a railroad overpass on the Grants Pass Parkway. The crash involved a Chevrolet Suburban, the Grants Pass Daily Courier reported. According to a press conference video, Grants Pass Department of Public Safety Chief Bill Landis said the armed man had been driving erratically, "hitting curbs and drove into the oncoming lane of the parkway near the overpass on the railroad trestle, where he crashed into the guard rail." Prior to that, police had received reports of an erratic driver who ran into several vehicles in the Walmart parking lot, according to the Courier. Landis said the man, who has not been identified, exited the vehicle with a knife and advanced on officers. Police tried to stop him with beanbag rounds and a stun gun, but he continued his advance, Landis said. No officers were reported injured, and the names of the officers involved have not been released. Oregon State Police is leading the investigation. Oregon Department of Transportation closed the highway between F and M streets in the aftermath of the incident, and all lanes reopened by 4 p.m.
