Omega fire sprinklers recalled Omega brand fire sprinklers are the target of a nationwide recall, and Medford fire officials want to make sure Rogue Valley residents get the word. The recalled sprinklers, manufactured starting in May 1996, were installed in businesses and residences. The Consumer Product Safety Commission believes the sprinklers are defective and could fail in a fire. Central Sprinkler Co., Omega's manufacturer, is offering consumers free replacement and reimbursement for the cost of installing new sprinklers. The Medford Fire Department is working with contractors to identify and replace defective sprinklers. Claims under the recall must be submitted by Aug. 1. For information, call (800) 896-5685 or visit www.omegarecall.com . The hotline and Web site can also help consumers identify the sprinklers, which may be engraved with the word "Central" or the initials "CSC." Because the sprinklers can be difficult to identify, consumers are encouraged to contact their builder or contractor to find out if Omega sprinklers were installed.
